Monster Fantasy Devs Respond to Monster Hunter Comparisons — "You'll Understand Once You Play"
Following comparisons to Monster Hunter, the developers of Monster Fantasy have officially addressed the growing debate surrounding their upcoming RPG. Studio JOTOYO acknowledged that Capcom's legendary franchise was a major inspiration, but insisted that players will discover a very different experience once they spend time with the full game. According to the team, the reveal trailer focused heavily on monster battles, creating the impression that Monster Fantasy is simply another hunting game—but combat represents only part of the adventure.

The developers explained that Monster Fantasy combines monster hunting, creature taming, life simulation, village management, exploration, crafting, farming, and NPC relationships into a single open-world RPG. Defeated monsters can become companions, certain creatures can be ridden, and players are free to focus on peaceful activities instead of constantly fighting. The studio says the goal is to create a world where players can live, build, and explore—not just complete one hunt after another.
JOTOYO also admitted that the early footage did not do enough to highlight these unique mechanics. In response to community feedback, the team confirmed that future trailers and playtests will better showcase the game's original features, while visual elements and certain designs are already being adjusted to help Monster Fantasy establish a stronger identity separate from Monster Hunter.
Although comparisons with Monster Hunter are unlikely to disappear anytime soon, the developers remain confident that the complete experience will speak for itself. With its blend of action RPG combat, monster collecting, life-sim systems, and open-world exploration, Monster Fantasy aims to appeal to a broader audience than traditional hunting games. Whether it can step out of Monster Hunter's shadow will ultimately depend on how those unique mechanics come together when the game finally launches.
