Indie developer Krabworks Game Studios has released an extensive new gameplay presentation for Hermit, an upcoming open-world action RPG that is already drawing comparisons to classics like Gothic and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The latest footage offers the most detailed look yet at the game's combat mechanics, spellcasting system, and exploration, while highlighting a unique feature that has become one of its trademarks—a faithful donkey companion that accompanies players throughout their adventure.

Unlike many modern action RPGs, Hermit places a strong emphasis on player freedom and meaningful progression. The gameplay demonstration showcases fast-paced melee combat with swords, axes, shields, and bows alongside a flexible magic system that allows players to combine offensive spells, elemental attacks, potions, and tactical abilities. According to the developer, different enemy types have distinct weaknesses, encouraging players to experiment with various weapons, damage types, and magical builds instead of relying on a single strategy throughout the game.

Exploration also plays a central role in the experience. Players will journey across a handcrafted medieval fantasy world filled with forests, swamps, caves, catacombs, ancient ruins, and small settlements. Rather than using procedural generation, every location has been individually designed by the solo developer. One of the game's most distinctive mechanics is the customizable donkey companion, which serves as both a pack animal and a reliable traveling partner capable of carrying equipment and supplies during long expeditions. Crafting, potion brewing, trading, and home upgrades further expand the RPG's progression systems.

Developed as a passion project by a single creator, Hermit has steadily gained attention thanks to its old-school RPG philosophy, challenging combat, and immersive world-building. A free demo is already available on Steam, allowing players to experience a portion of the game's open world before launch. Although the full release date has not yet been announced, the latest gameplay showcase suggests that Hermit is shaping up to be one of the most promising indie fantasy RPGs currently in development for PC.
