Rockstar Declares GTA 6 “Plays Best on PS5” as PlayStation Takes Center Stage in New Marketing Campaign
Rockstar Games has officially updated the Grand Theft Auto VI website with a prominent “Plays Best on PlayStation 5” badge, further strengthening Sony's marketing partnership ahead of the game's launch. The new branding appears throughout the official GTA 6 page, while PlayStation is heavily featured across Rockstar's promotional materials. Although Xbox Series X|S remains a launch platform, many fans quickly noticed that Microsoft's consoles receive significantly less visibility in the current marketing campaign.

The updated website now places the PlayStation 5 logo directly beneath the "Plays Best On" message and links visitors to a dedicated page highlighting PlayStation-specific features. Sony has also rolled out an extensive promotional campaign, with GTA 6 taking over the PlayStation Store, PS5 home screen, and the PlayStation App. These moves strongly suggest that Sony secured exclusive global marketing rights for Rockstar's biggest release, even though the game will launch simultaneously on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Despite the emphasis on PlayStation, Rockstar has not stated that the PS5 version is technically superior to the Xbox version. The phrase "Plays Best on PS5" is widely viewed as part of Sony's marketing agreement rather than confirmation of better graphics or performance. Both console versions remain scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, and Rockstar has yet to publish detailed technical comparisons or frame-rate information for either platform.
The latest website update is another sign that Sony intends to make GTA 6 the centerpiece of its holiday gaming campaign. With PlayStation branding now dominating Rockstar's official channels, many expect future trailers, advertisements, and promotional events to continue highlighting the PS5 version. For Xbox owners, however, there is no indication that support has been reduced—the current campaign reflects a marketing partnership, not platform exclusivity. Until Rockstar releases official technical details, players on both consoles can expect the same game when Grand Theft Auto VI launches later this year.
