Indie developer Atrax has released a free playable demo for its upcoming action-horror title Ghoul Fright, giving players an early taste of its chaotic blend of first-person combat, physics-driven destruction, and survival gameplay. Available now on Steam, the demo throws players into an arena overrun by bizarre monsters, where nearly every object in the environment can become a weapon.

Unlike traditional survival horror games, Ghoul Fright embraces fast-paced, over-the-top action with a colorful 1990s and early-2000s cartoon-inspired visual style. Players battle increasingly dangerous waves of enemies—including grotesque ghouls, explosive zombies, and mafia skeletons—using punches, heavy attacks, grapples, improvised weapons, and environmental hazards. The game's advanced physics system allows objects to be picked up, thrown, smashed, or used creatively to eliminate enemies in spectacular fashion.

The demo includes a wave-based survival mode featuring escalating difficulty, cursed challenge waves, online leaderboards, Steam achievements, and destructible environments. Atrax has also confirmed that the full release will expand the experience with online co-op, additional enemy types, new abilities, more locations, and deeper progression systems. Ghoul Fright is currently scheduled to launch in August 2026 on PC via Steam.

With its unusual mix of frantic melee combat, sandbox-style physics, and irreverent humor, Ghoul Fright stands out from more traditional horror games. The free demo has already received positive early feedback from players, suggesting the indie project could become a hidden gem for fans of chaotic action games when it arrives on Steam later this summer.
