Supermassive Games is entering a period of leadership transition as CEO Robert Henrysson has officially announced his departure following the release of Directive 8020. After less than three years leading the acclaimed horror studio, Henrysson confirmed he is leaving both Supermassive Games and its parent company, Nordisk Games, describing the decision as the end of "a very rewarding chapter" in his career.

Henrysson joined Nordisk Games in 2022 before becoming CEO of Supermassive in early 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw a significant restructuring of the studio, expanded its publishing partnerships, and guided development through one of the industry's most challenging periods. His leadership also saw the completion and release of Directive 8020, the latest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology, despite delays and layoffs that affected the studio during production.

In a farewell message shared on LinkedIn, Henrysson thanked the development team and praised Supermassive's commitment to storytelling and continuous improvement. He emphasized that the studio's achievements were the result of a collective effort rather than the work of a single executive, expressing confidence in the team's future. Parent company Nordisk Games also credited Henrysson with strengthening the studio's leadership structure and helping deliver Directive 8020, which has become one of the franchise's strongest-reviewed entries to date.

Supermassive Games has not yet announced a permanent successor, with Graeme Law expected to oversee the studio on an interim basis while the search for a new CEO begins. Although the leadership change introduces some uncertainty, the developer continues to work on future projects following the launch of Directive 8020. With a strong portfolio that includes Until Dawn, The Quarry, Little Nightmares III, and The Dark Pictures Anthology, Supermassive remains one of the industry's leading creators of cinematic horror experiences.
