After more than 10 years in Early Access, Axolot Games has officially confirmed that Scrap Mechanic will launch its long-awaited Version 1.0 on July 24, 2026, bringing development into a new chapter with one of the biggest content updates in the game's history. The release coincides with the arrival of Chapter 2, which completes the planned story expansion while introducing a wealth of new gameplay systems and technical improvements.

The Version 1.0 update dramatically expands the survival experience. Players will gain access to an enormous underground mining network, new questlines, additional NPCs, fresh enemy types, advanced crafting stations, new tools, and expanded automation mechanics. Axolot Games has also overhauled farming, progression, exploration, and environmental interactions, while introducing major graphical upgrades, improved lighting, better performance optimization, and enhanced modding support. The developers describe the update as the complete realization of the game's original vision.

Beyond new content, the studio has spent considerable time refining the game's technical foundation. According to previous developer updates, optimizing the underground mining system required extensive engine improvements to maintain stable performance while supporting large-scale terrain interaction. Internal development builds have continued receiving frequent updates throughout 2026, suggesting the team has been focused on polishing and bug fixing ahead of the full release.

Originally released in January 2016, Scrap Mechanic quickly became one of Steam's most popular sandbox building games thanks to its deep physics-based construction system and creative multiplayer gameplay. With Version 1.0 finally arriving after a decade of development, Axolot Games is preparing to deliver the definitive edition of the game, complete with the long-awaited Chapter 2 and a comprehensive collection of new features designed to reward both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
