Developer MicroProse and Team Burro have officially revealed Bergfried, a new medieval strategy game that blends organic castle construction, city management, and large-scale tactical sieges. The game's debut trailer premiered during IGN Live 2026, offering the first gameplay footage and introducing a sandbox experience centered around building and defending authentic medieval fortresses.

Unlike traditional city builders that rely on grid-based construction, Bergfried allows players to create castles with naturally flowing walls, towers, and fortifications that adapt to the surrounding landscape. The game emphasizes realistic medieval architecture, letting players expand settlements, manage resources, strengthen defenses, and prepare for increasingly complex sieges while balancing economic growth with military needs.

Combat plays an equally important role. Once construction is complete, players must defend their strongholds against large invading armies using layered fortifications, archers, siege engines, and tactical positioning. Every castle design directly influences battlefield performance, encouraging experimentation with different layouts and defensive strategies. According to the developers, each fortress becomes a unique creation shaped by player decisions rather than predefined templates.

Bergfried is currently in development for PC via Steam, although no release date has been announced. The reveal trailer has already attracted attention among fans of strategy and city-building games thanks to its focus on historically inspired castle construction and dynamic siege warfare. With its combination of creative freedom, resource management, and tactical battles, Bergfried is positioning itself as one of the most promising medieval strategy titles currently in development.
