State of Decay 3 Gets Nearly Two Hours of Gameplay Footage Ahead of 2027 Release

Fans of State of Decay 3 have received their most detailed look at the highly anticipated zombie survival game yet. More than 70 minutes of early gameplay footage from an alpha build has surfaced online, showcasing everything from exploration and base management to brutal combat against the undead. The extensive preview offers the clearest picture so far of how Undead Labs is evolving the franchise ahead of its planned 2027 launch.

The gameplay demonstrates many of the series' core survival mechanics while introducing several major improvements. Players scavenge abandoned buildings for food, medicine, fuel, and crafting materials before returning to their settlements to strengthen their community. Resource management appears deeper than in previous games, with nearly every item serving multiple purposes for crafting, repairs, or survival. The footage also highlights expanded vehicle gameplay, larger environments, and more immersive exploration across the open world.

Combat has also received significant upgrades. The alpha build features redesigned Plague Nests, where players must destroy multiple infected growths before eliminating the central Plague Heart. Zombies behave more aggressively than before, with Screamers capable of summoning additional infected and Bloaters requiring more tactical approaches. The preview also showcases stealth gameplay, melee combat, firearms, and encounters with powerful special infected, emphasizing a greater focus on strategy and teamwork.

Although the footage comes from an early alpha version and does not represent the final product, community reactions have been largely positive. Players have praised the improved visuals, expanded survival systems, and the more dynamic world, while acknowledging that animations, performance, and balancing are still being refined. State of Decay 3 is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass, with Undead Labs continuing to expand its alpha and beta testing programs ahead of release.
