Sony Patents Revolutionary Cooling System for Future PlayStation Consoles — PS6 Could Run Cooler Than Ever

Sony has patented a next-generation cooling system that could dramatically improve thermal performance in future PlayStation consoles, fueling fresh speculation about the hardware inside the PlayStation 6. The newly published patent describes a sealed liquid-based cooling solution designed to deliver more efficient heat transfer while avoiding some of the long-term reliability concerns associated with the liquid metal used in the PlayStation 5.

According to the patent, the system relies on a network of specially designed heat pipes filled with water inside a closed chamber. As the console heats up, the liquid evaporates, carries heat away from the processor, condenses, and then circulates back through the system. This continuous cycle allows heat to be removed more efficiently while remaining reliable whether the console is placed vertically or horizontally. Sony's design is also intended to reduce the risk of uneven thermal contact that can occur with liquid metal over long periods of use.

Although patents do not guarantee that a technology will appear in a commercial product, the timing has attracted attention because Sony is widely believed to be developing the PlayStation 6.
