Classic Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 Reportedly Coming to PS4 and PS5
Two of the most iconic entries in the Call of Duty franchise may soon make their way to modern PlayStation consoles. According to a new report, the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011) are set to receive native ports for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, allowing PlayStation players to revisit the legendary shooters without relying on older hardware or streaming services. While Activision has yet to officially confirm the project, evidence continues to mount that both games are in development.

The report follows the recent announcement that the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II are also being brought to PlayStation by Iron Galaxy. With those ports already confirmed for release in July 2026, many fans believe Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 could be next in line as Activision continues expanding its catalog of classic Call of Duty titles on modern PlayStation hardware.
Although no release window has been revealed, leaked PlayStation database entries reportedly reference native PS4 versions of both Modern Warfare games, suggesting active development is underway. If the ports follow the same approach as the recently announced Black Ops releases, players should expect the original campaigns, multiplayer modes, and Spec Ops content to return largely unchanged, rather than fully remastered editions with overhauled graphics.
For longtime fans, the return of the original Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 would be a welcome opportunity to revisit two of the franchise's most beloved games on current PlayStation systems. While Activision has not officially announced the ports, recent developments suggest the publisher is making a broader effort to preserve classic Call of Duty titles for modern platforms. An official reveal could arrive later this year if the reports prove accurate.
