The Sims 4 Finally Gets AutoSave and Major Performance Upgrade After Years of Player Requests
After more than a decade of community requests, The Sims 4 is finally receiving one of its most anticipated features: AutoSave. Electronic Arts has confirmed that a free base game update arriving on July 21 will introduce automatic saving, customizable save reminders, and a major performance overhaul designed to make the life simulation smoother and more reliable across all platforms. The update is part of EA's ongoing effort to improve the game's long-term stability and quality of life.

The new AutoSave system will quietly create save points during gameplay, allowing players to recover progress after crashes or unexpected shutdowns. Users will also be able to customize how often automatic saves occur or disable the feature entirely in favor of optional save reminders. These reminders can be configured to prompt manual saves at regular intervals, giving players greater control over how their progress is protected.
Alongside AutoSave, EA is rolling out Memory Boost, a new optimization feature that improves memory management during gameplay. According to the developers, players can expect reduced lag, faster loading times, improved frame rates, greater responsiveness, and fewer memory-related crashes. The biggest improvements should be noticeable during long play sessions, in large households, on heavily decorated lots, and when loading older save files that have traditionally suffered from performance issues.
The July update represents one of the most significant quality-of-life improvements in The Sims 4 since its 2014 launch. Beyond protecting players from losing hours of progress, the performance enhancements aim to make everyday gameplay far more stable. EA has also confirmed that another major update is planned for September, focusing on smarter Sim autonomy and additional gameplay improvements, signaling that support for The Sims 4 remains a priority.
