According to Final Fantasy XIV assistant director Tsuyoshi Yokozawa, previous raid series, particularly Pandæmonium, were designed with accessibility and stress reduction as top priorities. While that approach helped make the content more welcoming, it also restricted the team's creativity and left players with fewer opportunities to showcase their individual skill. For Arcadion, the developers looked back to the beloved Heavensward era and its iconic Alexander raids, focusing instead on surprise, experimentation, and memorable gameplay moments.

Rather than encouraging a single optimal strategy, Square Enix wanted players to solve mechanics in different ways and reward creative decision-making.
