Battlefield 6 Is Rebuilding Its Gunplay From the Ground Up to Fix One of the Game’s Biggest Problems
DICE is preparing one of the most significant gameplay updates since the launch of Battlefield 6, with developers confirming a major overhaul of the game's shooting mechanics. The upcoming Update 1.3.3 focuses on making gunplay more consistent, skill-based, and rewarding after months of community feedback criticizing weapon randomness and inconsistent firefights. According to the studio, the changes mark the beginning of a new initiative called Battlefield Combat, which aims to refine the series' core gameplay systems.

The biggest improvement comes from a complete redesign of weapon handling. DICE is introducing predictable recoil patterns, reducing random bullet deviation, and rebalancing weapon spread so that players who master recoil control and accurate aiming will gain a much greater advantage. Bullet velocity and drag are also being adjusted to make each weapon class feel more distinctive, while improved handling is expected to create more satisfying firefights across all multiplayer modes.
Another major change affects damage calculation. The update introduces new limb damage modifiers, meaning shots to the arms and legs will deal less damage than hits to the torso or head. This change slightly increases the time-to-kill (TTK) in many situations while rewarding players who consistently land accurate shots. Sniper rifles are also receiving balance tweaks, including reduced one-shot kill ranges for certain weapons, helping create clearer roles across the game's arsenal.
DICE says these improvements are only the first step in a broader effort to modernize Battlefield 6's combat. Future Battlefield Combat updates will focus on areas such as vehicle gameplay, soldier visibility, gadgets, and network improvements to further enhance the multiplayer experience. With Update 1.3.3 launching on June 30, the developer hopes the redesigned gunplay will address one of the community's biggest complaints and make Battlefield 6's firefights more competitive, predictable, and enjoyable than ever before.
