Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.4 Adds Another Skill Tree and Unlocks More Build Possibilities
Grinding Gear Games has released Path of Exile 2 Update 0.5.4, introducing yet another progression system that gives players even greater freedom when creating endgame builds. The headline feature is a brand-new Atlas Passive Tree dedicated to the Runes of Aldur league, offering fresh ways to customize Expedition encounters while significantly expanding character progression. The update also includes major changes to Unique items, making experimental builds far more accessible from the early stages of the game.

The new Atlas Passive Tree consists of 24 passive nodes, each designed to modify Expedition mechanics in different ways. Players can increase the frequency of Expedition encounters, improve rewards, unlock new merchants, or enhance relic-based gameplay depending on how they invest their points. Rather than providing simple stat boosts, many of the nodes introduce meaningful gameplay changes, allowing players to tailor the endgame experience to match their preferred farming strategy.
Patch 0.5.4 also reworks the way Unique items function. Many skill-granting Uniques now automatically scale to the character's level, allowing players to equip and use them much earlier than before. According to game director Jonathan Rogers, this change opens "a whole bunch of builds" that previously weren't practical until the late game. The update further introduces new currency items tied to the current league, alongside additional quality-of-life improvements aimed at making endgame progression more rewarding.
With every major update, Path of Exile 2 continues to deepen its already complex progression systems. The addition of another skill tree reinforces Grinding Gear Games' commitment to giving players unprecedented build diversity while keeping the endgame fresh through meaningful customization. As the action RPG moves closer to its full release, Update 0.5.4 stands out as another major step toward making Path of Exile 2 one of the deepest and most replayable ARPGs on the market.
