Mortal Shell II Open Beta Surpasses 500,000 Downloads in Major Milestone
The upcoming action RPG Mortal Shell II has reached an impressive new milestone even before its official release. Developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack have announced that the game's open beta has been downloaded more than 500,000 times, highlighting the enormous interest surrounding the highly anticipated Soulslike sequel. The achievement comes just weeks after the beta launched during Summer Game Fest 2026, making it one of the most successful game betas of the year.

The open beta gives players access to the game's opening prologue and an early section of its interconnected world, allowing fans to experience the revamped combat system, explore dangerous environments, and discover several of the new Shells that define the sequel's gameplay. Those who progress beyond the introductory area will also unlock the ability to skip the prologue in the full release, while all participants receive the exclusive Flayed Harbinger cosmetic reward when the game launches.
Cold Symmetry thanked the community for the overwhelming support and confirmed that player feedback is already helping shape the final version of the game. Since the beta went live, the development team has been fixing bugs, improving performance, and refining gameplay mechanics based on community suggestions. Early impressions have been largely positive, with many players praising the sequel's faster combat, expanded exploration, and significant improvements over the original Mortal Shell.
Mortal Shell II is scheduled to launch later in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, although an exact release date has not yet been announced. With more than half a million beta downloads and strong early community reception, the sequel is already shaping up to be one of the year's biggest Soulslike releases. If the momentum continues, Mortal Shell II could become Cold Symmetry's breakout success and one of the standout action RPGs of 2026.
