After seven years of complete silence, the developer behind the long-delayed RPG Project Phoenix has resurfaced with a lengthy update for Kickstarter backers, promising that the game is still in development. Director Hiroaki Yura publicly apologized for the prolonged absence of communication, admitting that the lack of updates damaged players' trust. He confirmed that the project has not been canceled, but also revealed that production is now expected to continue until the end of 2031, with the final release date to be announced later.

Originally launched on Kickstarter in 2013, Project Phoenix raised more than $1 million and was initially scheduled to release in 2015. After missing several deadlines, updates became increasingly rare before stopping altogether in 2019. According to Yura, the team underestimated the project's scope and his own experience managing such an ambitious game. He says development is now being funded by his current studio rather than the original Kickstarter campaign.

Alongside the announcement, the developer shared new prototype footage and confirmed that several veteran creators remain involved in the project, including composer Nobuo Uematsu. Yura also stated that a larger and more experienced development team is now working on the RPG and promised more frequent communication through Kickstarter and a newly launched Discord community.

Although many backers remain skeptical after years of missed deadlines, the latest update marks the first meaningful progress report since 2019. Whether Project Phoenix will finally reach release after nearly two decades in development remains uncertain, but the team insists it is committed to completing the game and rebuilding the community's trust.
