Tomb Raider Remake Concept Artist Says Lara Croft Inspired Her Career in Game Development
Senior concept artist Elix Wilton-Regan, who is working on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, has revealed that Lara Croft played a major role in inspiring her career in the video game industry. Speaking about her experience on the project, she explained that the original Tomb Raider games left a lasting impression during her childhood, motivating her to pursue a career in concept art. According to the artist, joining the remake's development team feels like a full-circle moment after years of admiring the iconic adventurer.

Wilton-Regan said Lara's determination, intelligence, and fearless attitude made the character stand out from other video game heroes of the time. She described Lara as someone who inspired players to stay curious, overcome obstacles, and never give up, values that continued to influence her throughout her professional journey. Working on Legacy of Atlantis, she added, has given her the opportunity to help shape a modern version of a character who inspired an entire generation of creators.
The development team has repeatedly emphasized that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis aims to balance the atmosphere of the 1996 original with modern gameplay and storytelling. Alongside upgraded visuals and expanded environments, the remake is designed to preserve Lara's confidence, intelligence, and signature British charm while introducing the character to a new generation of players.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is currently scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. As anticipation continues to grow, stories from developers who were inspired by Lara Croft highlight the lasting cultural impact of one of gaming's most recognizable protagonists.
