Control Resonant Lets Players Skip Some Boss Fights to Encourage Exploration

Remedy Entertainment has revealed that not every boss encounter in Control Resonant will be mandatory, giving players more freedom to explore its paranormal version of Manhattan. According to the developers, many powerful enemies are completely optional and can be challenged in any order. Defeating these bosses rewards players with new abilities, encouraging exploration without forcing everyone to complete every encounter during the main story.

The new approach reflects Remedy's goal of making Control Resonant feel more like an action RPG than its predecessor. Instead of following a strictly linear progression, players can venture into hidden locations, uncover optional activities, and decide which supernatural threats to confront. The studio says exploration plays a central role in character progression, with optional discoveries unlocking additional combat options and customization opportunities.

Developers also explained that the sequel is designed around player choice rather than completion. While optional bosses offer valuable rewards, players who prefer to focus on the main narrative will still be able to finish the story without defeating every major enemy. Remedy believes this structure will encourage replayability, allowing different playthroughs to feature unique abilities and combat builds depending on the paths players choose.

Scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, Control Resonant is shaping up to be a much more open-ended experience than the original Control. By combining optional bosses, larger exploration zones, and RPG progression systems, Remedy hopes to give players greater freedom while preserving the mysterious atmosphere that made the series a fan favorite.
