Solo-Developed Space Simulator Univoyager Finally Revealed After 16 Years in Development
After 16 years of solo development, independent developer Damiano Vitulli has officially unveiled Univoyager, an ambitious space simulation game built on a custom engine. Alongside the announcement trailer, the developer confirmed that the game's first public playtest is coming soon, marking a major milestone for a project that has been in development since 2011. Designed as a seamless space exploration experience, Univoyager promises realistic planetary travel, procedural worlds, trading, combat, and complete freedom to explore a full-scale universe without loading screens.

Unlike many modern space games, Univoyager runs on a custom-built engine created entirely by a single developer. The game features real-scale star systems, procedural planets, realistic orbital physics, warp travel, and support for HOTAS controllers, with VR compatibility planned after launch. Players will be able to choose their own path by becoming merchants, mercenaries, or pirates while exploring a vast, continuously evolving galaxy.
According to Vitulli, the past several months have been dedicated to fixing bugs, improving performance, securing the game's executable, and preparing the first playable build for community testing. The upcoming playtest will focus on core mechanics and gathering player feedback before future demo releases and the eventual full launch. The developer thanked the community for supporting the project throughout its lengthy development and encouraged players to wishlist the game on Steam.
Although Univoyager does not yet have a final release date, the announcement trailer represents the biggest step forward in the project's history. After more than a decade and a half of development, the ambitious indie simulator is finally approaching the stage where players will be able to experience its vast open universe for themselves.
