Thorny Times Developers Reveal New Combat Details and Expanded Tactical Features
Developer Aterdux Entertainment has shared a fresh look at Thorny Times, revealing new details about the tactical RPG's combat system and the variety of content planned for the full release. Inspired by classic strategy games such as King's Bounty and Disciples, the game combines turn-based tactical battles with kingdom management, exploration, and RPG progression. Players will lead a small band of mercenaries across a fantasy world where every decision can influence both the battlefield and the campaign map.

According to the developers, battles are designed as tactical puzzles rather than simple stat checks. Every mercenary has a unique skill tree, equipment inventory, and specialized role, encouraging players to build squads with strong synergy. Enemy encounters will require different strategies, as certain opponents can only be defeated by combining specific abilities, weapons, or magical powers instead of relying on brute force alone.
Outside of combat, Thorny Times features a strategic world map where players capture villages and castles, defend territories, earn income, and complete story-driven quests. The game will include multiple campaign scenarios with branching narratives, allowing players to experience different adventures across the same world. A built-in scenario editor will also let the community create custom campaigns, battles, and storylines with multiple endings.
Although Thorny Times does not yet have a final release date, Aterdux Entertainment continues to expand its ambitious blend of tactical combat and grand strategy. With deep character customization, challenging turn-based battles, and extensive modding tools, the indie project is shaping up to be an appealing choice for fans of classic fantasy strategy RPGs.
