New Fallout Rumor Could Reunite Original Series Creators at Obsidian
A new report has sparked excitement among RPG fans by claiming that Obsidian Entertainment is developing a brand-new Fallout game led by Josh Sawyer, the director of Fallout: New Vegas. The project is also said to involve several developers who worked on the original Fallout titles, raising hopes for a creative reunion of some of the franchise's most influential creators. Neither Microsoft, Bethesda, nor Obsidian has officially confirmed the project, so the information should be treated as a rumor.

According to the report, the new Fallout project entered early development after Microsoft's recent Xbox restructuring, which reportedly shifted Obsidian's priorities away from other internal projects. The studio is believed to be collaborating closely with Bethesda Game Studios, while continuing support for The Outer Worlds 2 and Grounded 2. Although details remain scarce, the rumored involvement of Josh Sawyer has fueled speculation that the game could embrace the deep role-playing systems and player choice that made Fallout: New Vegas a fan favorite.
The report follows significant layoffs at Xbox that reportedly affected around a quarter of Obsidian's workforce. Several unannounced projects, including an Avowed sequel, were reportedly canceled as Microsoft reorganized its first-party studios and redirected resources toward major franchises such as Fallout. Despite the restructuring, insiders claim the company sees Fallout as one of Xbox's most valuable long-term properties.
Until Microsoft or Bethesda makes an official announcement, the rumored Fallout project remains unconfirmed. Even so, the possibility of reuniting key developers behind the original games and Fallout: New Vegas has generated enormous excitement, with many fans hoping the next chapter will capture the classic RPG depth that helped define the series.
