Ubisoft has responded to criticism surrounding the microtransactions in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, emphasizing that all core gameplay content is fully accessible without spending extra money. Following complaints about optional cosmetic packs and premium items, the publisher stated that the in-game store is designed to provide additional customization rather than lock story missions, gameplay systems, or progression behind extra purchases. According to Ubisoft, players can complete the entire campaign, side quests, and explore all major features without buying any microtransactions.
The controversy began shortly after launch, when players noticed that the remake included a premium store offering cosmetic bundles, outfits, weapon skins, and time-saving items. Some members of the community argued that a full-priced single-player game should not feature additional paid content, leading to mixed user reviews on Steam. Ubisoft responded by stressing that these purchases are entirely optional and have no impact on access to the game's main content or ending.
The publisher also noted that every major gameplay feature—including the main storyline, new side missions, naval activities, exploration content, and progression systems—is available from the standard edition.
