Valheim Will Leave Early Access With a Higher Price as Iron Gate Confirms $30 Full Release
After more than five years in Early Access, Valheim is preparing for its full 1.0 launch, and developer Iron Gate Studio has confirmed that the game's price will increase alongside its official release. When Valheim 1.0 arrives on September 9, 2026, the survival hit will cost $29.99, up from its current $19.99 price tag. According to the developers, the increase reflects the game's transition from an unfinished Early Access project to a complete experience.

Iron Gate explained the decision in its newly published Valheim 1.0 FAQ, stating that players who purchase the game before version 1.0 launches will automatically receive the full release without paying the higher price. The studio noted that the game has grown enormously since its Early Access debut in 2021, with multiple major biome updates, expanded progression systems, hundreds of new items, and countless gameplay improvements added over the past five years.
Version 1.0 will introduce the long-awaited Deep North biome, completing Valheim's planned progression and bringing the Viking survival adventure to its full release. Alongside the new biome, players can expect additional enemies, weapons, crafting recipes, achievements, quality-of-life improvements, and the game's concluding chapter. The launch will also mark Valheim's debut on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with full cross-platform multiplayer supported across all platforms.
For players who have been waiting to begin their Viking journey, Iron Gate's announcement offers a clear incentive to buy the game before September. Purchasing Valheim during Early Access locks in the lower price while still granting access to all future 1.0 content at no extra cost. With its long development cycle finally nearing completion, Valheim is preparing to leave Early Access as one of the most successful survival games of the decade—this time as a fully finished adventure.
