Onimusha: Way of the Sword Moves Release Date Forward by Three Weeks, Launching on September 4
In a surprise announcement, Capcom has revealed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will now launch three weeks earlier than originally planned. Instead of arriving on September 25, the highly anticipated action game is now scheduled to release on September 4, 2026, giving fans the chance to jump into the samurai adventure much sooner than expected. The revised launch date was confirmed through Capcom's official channels earlier today.

According to Capcom, the decision was made so the game could reach players sooner, although many industry observers believe the move also helps the title avoid an increasingly crowded late-September release schedule. The original launch window would have placed Onimusha: Way of the Sword alongside several major releases, including Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and other high-profile games. By shifting to early September, Capcom gives the revival of its classic franchise more room to stand out.
The change also affects digital pre-orders. Capcom confirmed that the previous digital pre-order bonus will now become an early purchase bonus, available to players who buy the game shortly after launch. In addition, digital pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be automatically canceled because of the new release date, requiring customers to place their orders again. Pre-orders on other platforms remain unaffected.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first brand-new mainline entry in the legendary series in two decades. Built using the RE Engine, the game follows a young Miyamoto Musashi through a dark fantasy version of Edo-era Kyoto, featuring fast-paced sword combat, supernatural enemies, and modern gameplay systems inspired by the franchise's classic mechanics. With its release now just weeks away, Capcom's decision gives the long-awaited revival a stronger opportunity to shine before the busy holiday release season begins.
