Asobo Studio has shared new story details about Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, revealing how the upcoming prequel weaves Greek mythology into the established lore of the A Plague Tale universe. Set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, the game follows fan-favorite smuggler Sophia on a dangerous journey to uncover the truth about her past, while exploring ancient myths that are deeply connected to the series' long-running mysteries.

According to the developers, Greek legends are not simply decorative background elements. Instead, myths surrounding the Minotaur, King Minos, and the ancient Minoan civilization play a central role in the narrative. Sophia's expedition takes her to the mysterious Minotaur's Island, where forgotten temples, labyrinths, and long-buried secrets gradually reveal a hidden connection between mythology and the supernatural curse that has shaped the A Plague Tale universe for centuries.

Asobo also explained that the game explores themes of fate, legacy, and identity through Sophia's personal journey. Unlike Amicia's story, which focused heavily on survival and family, Resonance centers on a heroine searching for answers about her own origins. Players will experience a more action-oriented adventure featuring sword combat, environmental puzzles, and a new dual-timeline narrative, where events tied to ancient Greek history influence Sophia's present-day quest. The studio believes this structure allows mythology to become an active part of gameplay rather than simply a storytelling device.

While Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy introduces a fresh protagonist and a more combat-focused design, Asobo insists that the game remains deeply connected to the emotional storytelling and mystery that defined previous entries. By blending historical settings, ancient myths, and the franchise's supernatural lore, the studio hopes to expand the world of A Plague Tale without losing its identity. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with day-one Xbox Game Pass support already confirmed.
