Square Enix Doesn’t Rule Out Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo Switch 2

Square Enix has indicated that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XV remains a possibility, though no official port has been announced. During the company's recent annual shareholders' meeting, executives responded to a question about bringing the 2016 RPG to Nintendo hardware, stating that while technical limitations exist, a full release is "not entirely impossible" and that the idea will be considered by the development team.

According to the company's official response, hardware capabilities are still an important factor when it comes to recreating the complete Final Fantasy XV experience. However, Square Enix emphasized that the concept is technically feasible and confirmed it would forward shareholder feedback as valuable input for future platform planning. Although the original question referred to the Nintendo Switch family in general, many industry observers believe the significantly more powerful Switch 2 would be the most realistic target for any future port.

The possibility of a Switch 2 release has become more believable in recent months as Square Enix continues expanding support for Nintendo's latest console. The publisher has already brought several major Final Fantasy titles to the platform, including Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, demonstrating that modern entries in the series can successfully run on the new hardware. That growing multiplatform strategy has fueled speculation that Final Fantasy XV could eventually join them.

It's worth noting that Nintendo players have previously received Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD, a simplified version of the game designed for less powerful hardware. A full port of the original open-world RPG has never been released on a Nintendo system. For now, Square Enix has not confirmed that such a project is in development, and the company's comments should be viewed as an acknowledgment that the idea is under consideration rather than an announcement. Still, the statement offers the clearest indication yet that Final Fantasy XV could one day make its way to Nintendo Switch 2 if the technical and commercial conditions are right.
