Paradox Interactive has announced a highly requested customization feature for Stellaris, allowing players to decide exactly how resource-rich or resource-poor their galaxies will be before starting a new campaign. The addition arrives as part of the upcoming Stellaris 4.4.5 "Pegasus" Open Beta, introducing a new Resource Abundance slider that offers significantly greater control over galaxy generation.

The new setting ranges from "Scarce" to 5× resource abundance, with adjustments available in 0.25x increments. According to the developers, a value of roughly matches the resource distribution from version 4.3, while recreates the much richer galaxy introduced with the 4.4 update. The default value has been set to , giving players a balanced experience while still allowing them to tailor campaigns to their preferred level of challenge.

Paradox says the feature was designed in response to community feedback. Some players wanted harsher campaigns where resources are limited and territorial expansion becomes more important, while others preferred galaxies overflowing with strategic resources to encourage faster technological progress and larger interstellar empires. The new slider lets players customize each campaign without relying on mods, making Stellaris more flexible for both casual and veteran strategists.

The 4.4.5 Open Beta also introduces additional gameplay improvements, including new Waystation Voidlure modules, an Arkship Voidlure Array, interface refinements, and numerous bug fixes following the release of the Nomads expansion and the free 4.4 "Pegasus" update. While the beta is still undergoing testing, the Resource Abundance slider is already being welcomed as one of the most useful quality-of-life additions for players who enjoy customizing every aspect of their galactic civilization before embarking on a new campaign.
