Dark Action RPG Anhedonia: Sanctuary of Ash Releases Free Playable Demo on Steam
Developer Trauma Bonded Studio has officially launched the public demo for its upcoming dark fantasy action RPG Anhedonia: Sanctuary of Ash, giving players their first opportunity to experience the game's brutal combat and atmospheric world ahead of its planned December 2026 release. Available now on Steam, the demo serves as a standalone prologue introducing the game's core mechanics, story, and survival systems.

Set in a world devastated by a biblical apocalypse, players take on the role of Edgar, a fallen priest searching for redemption after demonic forces overrun humanity. The demo combines weighty third-person melee combat with exploration, resource gathering, and extraction-style gameplay. Every expedition into the cursed wilderness carries significant risk, as players must battle possessed enemies, rescue survivors, and safely return valuable resources to the Sanctuary of Ash before losing everything.
Beyond combat, Anhedonia: Sanctuary of Ash features a settlement-building system where rescued survivors help rebuild the monastery that serves as the game's central hub. Players can assign roles, upgrade facilities, unlock new equipment, and strengthen the sanctuary while gradually uncovering the mystery behind the world's collapse. The developers have also emphasized mechanics such as exorcising corrupted humans instead of simply defeating them, adding another layer to the game's dark fantasy setting.
Trauma Bonded Studio says the newly released demo is intended to gather community feedback before launch and encourages players to share suggestions and bug reports through the game's official Discord and feedback survey. With its blend of Souls-inspired combat, extraction mechanics, survival elements, and base-building progression, Anhedonia: Sanctuary of Ash is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious indie action RPGs scheduled for release later this year.
