Square Enix Reveals Dragon Quest XI S Technical Specs for Nintendo Switch 2

Square Enix has shared the official technical details for Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that the RPG will feature two graphical modes that allow players to prioritize either smoother performance or higher image quality. The enhanced edition launches on September 24, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo's latest console.

Players will be able to choose between Performance Priority Mode, which runs the game at 1080p and 60 FPS, and Image Quality Priority Mode, which increases the resolution to 1440p while targeting 30 FPS. Square Enix has not announced separate docked and handheld specifications, though the Switch 2's built-in display is limited to 1080p, meaning the higher-resolution mode primarily benefits those playing on an external display.

Beyond the improved performance options, the Switch 2 release includes everything from the original Definitive Edition. Players will once again have access to the additional character story chapters, English and Japanese voice acting, the fully orchestrated soundtrack, and the ability to switch between the game's classic 2D and modern 3D visual styles at any time. However, Square Enix has confirmed that save data cannot be transferred from the original Nintendo Switch version, and there is no upgrade path, meaning existing owners must purchase the Switch 2 edition separately.

Although the content remains unchanged, the improved frame rate and higher-resolution graphics make this the smoothest console version of Dragon Quest XI S to date. With enhanced optimization and modern performance options, the Switch 2 release offers newcomers and returning players an upgraded way to experience one of the most acclaimed entries in the long-running RPG series.
