Sci-Fi Adventure These Starless Skies Officially Announced for PC
Indie developer Wayward Astronaut has officially unveiled These Starless Skies, a story-driven 2.5D sci-fi point-and-click adventure set on a mysterious tidally locked planet. Announced with a cinematic debut trailer, the game follows a team of planetary scientists whose mission quickly turns into a struggle for survival as they confront both an alien mystery and their own personal demons. The title is currently in development for PC via Steam, with a release date yet to be announced.

In These Starless Skies, players experience the narrative through the perspectives of six different crew members, each with their own motivations, secrets, and emotional baggage. The story unfolds episodically, featuring playable flashbacks set on a futuristic Earth that gradually reveal the events leading each scientist to the expedition. Their mission centers on investigating a strange tidally locked planet, where one hemisphere is locked in perpetual daylight, the other remains in eternal darkness, and only a narrow twilight zone offers a chance for survival.
The game combines classic point-and-click exploration with investigative gameplay, environmental puzzles, dialogue choices, and scientific fieldwork. Players will analyze alien organisms, collect planetary samples using futuristic equipment, uncover hidden clues, and make decisions that influence relationships within the crew. Visually, These Starless Skies blends detailed pixel art with atmospheric 3D environments, creating a cinematic presentation that contrasts the planet's scorching deserts, frozen wastelands, and mysterious twilight landscapes.
Developed in Perth, Western Australia, with support from Screen Australia and Screenwest, These Starless Skies aims to deliver a narrative-focused science fiction adventure inspired by classic point-and-click games while exploring themes of isolation, identity, and human resilience. Although no launch window has been announced, the game is already available to wishlist on Steam, and the announcement trailer offers an early glimpse of what could become one of the more intriguing indie sci-fi adventures currently in development.
