MetaPCs Launches SteamRoller, a $1,299 Gaming PC With SteamOS Pre-Installed
The number of SteamOS-powered gaming PCs continues to grow as MetaPCs officially introduces the SteamRoller, a new prebuilt desktop designed for players who want a console-like gaming experience without relying on Windows. Priced at $1,299, the system comes with SteamOS pre-installed and is among the first modern desktop PCs to embrace Valve’s Linux-based gaming platform out of the box.

Under the hood, the SteamRoller features an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X processor paired with an AMD Radeon RX 7600 graphics card. The system also includes 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory, a 1TB NVMe SSD, a 240mm liquid cooler, and a 650W 80+ Gold power supply, all housed in a compact Jonsbo D32 case. Unlike traditional consoles, the PC uses standard desktop components, allowing users to upgrade the GPU, storage, and other hardware in the future.
The biggest selling point is its software. By shipping with SteamOS instead of Windows, the SteamRoller offers a streamlined interface optimized for controller-based gaming while taking advantage of Valve’s Proton compatibility layer, which enables thousands of Windows games to run on Linux. The launch follows Valve’s recent efforts to expand SteamOS beyond the Steam Deck and its own Steam Machine, encouraging third-party manufacturers to adopt the operating system.
MetaPCs has already opened pre-orders, with the first shipments expected to begin in early July. The arrival of systems like the SteamRoller highlights a growing trend toward open, console-style gaming PCs built around SteamOS. As more manufacturers enter the market, players will have an increasing number of alternatives to traditional Windows gaming desktops, potentially making SteamOS a much larger player in the PC gaming ecosystem over the coming years.
